Course Reviews

Back in 1998, I used to ride by what is now Providence Golf Club every day on my way to work, thinking "Man what a waste of land this is. Someone should put a golf course on it." I had no idea that this was the old Pocoshock Golf Course, or that it would be reopened as Providence.

Lester George did a great job on the redesign, getting every bit of his moneys-worth out of the land he was given. While not the longest course in the world, Providence provides enough variety to keep players coming back week after week.

Originally designed by Masters champion Art Wall, Seascape is a stalwart of Outer Banks golf, long the only course on the islands. Increased competition forced Seascape to step up their game a few years ago, and they strengthened a number of nondescript holes, although the course still features a 440 yard par five (around a sharp dogleg and up an extremely steep hill).

I’m staying at the timeshare resort in an owner’s villa, so I am only paying cart fees this week. For $20, it’s difficult to complain.
